Notice of Intent to Revoke Southside's Charter
The New York State Education Department (NYSED) notified Believe Southside Charter High School on January 10, 2012 of their intent to revoke the school's charter. A copy of the notice of intent to revoke the school's charter is available for download under the Documents section. Please note that Southside takes this notice very seriously and is working swiftly to correct the concerns detailed in the notice within the thirty day allotted period. Please continue to monitor the Probation Status Update page for announcements regarding NYSED's intent to revoke the school's charter.
Probation Status Update: On Friday, October 7, 2011, the New York State Education Department conducted an unannounced visit to the Believe Southside Charter High School. Please view the “Oversight Memo” in the Documents section to read more about the positive results of the visit.
Dear Southside Family,
The school has been notified by the Director of the New York State Charter School Office that the Believe Southside Charter High School, effective September 21, 2011, has been placed on Probationary status until at least June 30, 2012.
While we are disappointed with this action, the Board of Trustees of the school takes full responsibility for the issues addressed in the probation notice and is ready to comply fully and immediately with all the concerns the state has raised and delineated in its Remedial Action Plan for the school.
The state has raised legitimate and reasonable issues as part of their due diligence. They have also provided us with a detailed road map to follow and guide us through this difficult process to a successful conclusion.
Please be confident that everyone is focused on our young people and the work that we do with them on a daily basis. The school has established a strong culture and a strong academic platform with very respectable results thus far and we will continue to build on those strengths towards supporting our first graduating class in 2013. We will brief the community on a regular basis via the website throughout the year in regards to the school’s status. We are also posting here the Remedial Action Timeline and will update it on a regular basis when the school has met a condition or conditions.
